Stephen Riley

Steve Riley is Co-Founder & Executive Director of Nuba Water Project.  He has many years experience working with non-profit organizations both as volunteer and paid staff.  Steve has traveled twice to Cambodia to supervise construction of a school and community center near Angkor Wat. He has traveled to Sudan twice since 2007 leading
teams working on a water assessment for South Kordofan/Nuba Mountains State as well as projects in Khartoum and in the Nuba Mountains. He has a passion for work in underdeveloped countries, especially with the problem of inadequate and unsafe water supplies. Steve has also worked extensively in the area of refugee housing construction. Nuba Water Project uses a technique known as roofs first construction  to deploy simple, inexpensive and durable housing for people displaced by civil war now returning to the Nuba Mountains after years spent in refugee camps. His friendship with Sudanese families in Denver spurred him to found the Nuba Water Project. In November 2007, Steve retired from a 30 year career in the insurance business to devote full time to Nuba Water Project. Steve is married to Martha Riley, a high school teacher who devotes her spare time to building schools in South Sudan. They have two grown children, Jessica and David.
